In the works of German composer Wolfgang Rihm, Mahler is sometimes an explicit reference: Abkehr (1985) was a selection for orchestra conceived as a prologue to his Ninth Symphony. After Reminiszenz, a recent tribute to novelist, dramaturge, and organ maker Hans Henny Jahnn (d. 1959), it’s the Première that Thomas Hengelbrock directs tonight.
